Public transportation and rental cars are important for business travelers across the nation. In order to protect the health and safety of travelers, many companies are modifying and enhancing their cleaning protocols.
Public Transportation
The CDC released guidelines for the sanitization of non-emergency transport vehicles. At a minimum, non-emergency transport vehicles’ commonly touched surfaces should be cleaned and disinfected at the beginning and end of each shift between transporting passengers who are visibly ill. In addition, drivers should ensure that cleaning and disinfection measures are followed consistently and correctly, which includes the provision of satisfactory ventilation when using chemicals by opening doors and windows while cleaning the vehicle. When cleaning and disinfecting, individuals should wear disposable gloves compatible with the products being used as well as any other PPE required according to the product manufacturer’s instructions. Use of a disposable gown is also recommended, if available. For more information, check out the CDC’s guidelines here.
Hertz Gold Standard
Hertz introduced the 15-point Hertz Gold Standard for cleaning and disinfecting their rental cars in congruence with the CDC’s guidelines. After each rental, Hertz conducts a spotless exterior wash, cleans all interior surfaces, checks and cleans all compartments, and odors are removed and disinfected. Finally, each car is sealed with the Hertz Gold Seal after it’s cleaned to ensure that no one enters the vehicle between the sanitization and the next renter. Complete Clean Pledge

They pay special attention to sanitizing the key, steering wheel, steering column, seat belts, center console, door interiors, door pockets, interior door handles, exterior door handles, seat pockets, seat surfaces, areas between seats and consoles, areas between seats and doorjambs, cupholders, instrument panel, accessory panel, touchscreen, rearview mirror, side mirrors, visors, visor mirrors, dashboard, vents, gear stick, gear shift, trunk release, and other high-touch areas.
